John E. Campbell, MD, FACEP

is the EMS Medical Director for the state of Alabama and EMS Program Medical Director at Trenholm State Technical College in Montgomery and Southern Union State Community College in Opelika, Alabama.  Dr. Campbell is the President and Editor for International Trauma Life Support, Inc.  International Trauma Life Support published by the Brady Co, is the leading two-day trauma training course for EMT Basics, paramedics and advanced EMS providers and is taught world-wide.  His awards include: Ronald D. Stewart Award, National Association of EMS Physicians and EMS Award,  American College of Emergency Physicians.  Dr. Campbell has authored five editions of Basic Trauma Life Support, four editions of BTLS for the EMT-B and First Responder, and is the editor for Pediatric Basic Trauma Life Support

   
Jim Smith, BS, MS, EMT-P

has been employed in public safety for more than thirty years.  He currently serves as a certified police chief for a rural southern Alabama town and is a faculty practicioner teaching graduate criminal justice courses for the University of Phoenix.  Smith has an Associate in science in emergency medical technology, a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and chemistry along with a Master of Science in safety from the University of Southern California.  He also has other advanced degrees.  Smith has been a practicing paramedic since 1976 and professional law enforcement officer since 1984.  Smith is a graduate of the FBI Post Blast Investigators Course, Level II Certified by the International Society of Explosive Engineers, member of the International Society of Bomb Technicians and Investigators, professional member of the American Society of Safety Engineers, a certified Emergency Manager, graduate of the U.S. Army Chemical School Domestic Preparedness program and Toxic Agent Training Facility, certified Fire Instructor Level II, and Certified Police Planner.  He is a graduate of the FBI Executive Management Program for bomb squads and served as a bomb squad commander for more than ten years along with the supervision of a clandestine drug laboratory entry and assessment team.  Smith is also a hazardous materials emergency response technician and practiced as a health physics technician at a commercial operating nuclear power facility.  He has authored three additional textbooks relating to response to bomb threats, practical research and published data on blast mitigation using specialized equipment, which led to the application for a patent and commercial production of the equipment.  He also has published practical research data on pipe bomb fragment propagation and more than fifty other articles in refereed journals.

   
Steven A. Simpson, BSBA, NREMT-P

is the EMS and Fire Science Program Director at Southern Union State Community College in Opelika, Alabama.  He holds a Business degree with a computer information science major and also holds an Associate of Applied Science degree in EMS.  He is the Alabama Chapter International Trauma Life Support State Coordinator and is an instructor for ITLS, ACLS, PALS, BCLS, Firefighter I and II and HazMat Awareness/Operations.  He also holds Regional Faculty status with the American Heart Association in ACLS, PALS and BCLS.

   
Denise C. Louthain, BS, NREMT-P

 is the Executive Director of the Southeast Alabama EMS Council, Inc in Dothan, Alabama.  She is also the Executive Director of the Alabama Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians.  She received her Bachelor of Science in Health Management from Kennedy-Western University in Agoura Hill, California.  She is a nationally registered paramedic, an ITLS instructor, and CPR, ACLS and PALS instructor.  She is also on the Board of Directors of the Alabama Poison control center.
